Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini concedes “it’s difficult to save a ship that has already hit an iceberg and sunk.”

The Rosanero are in the drop zone and already on their third Coach of the campaign, while this week he tried and failed to recall Roberto De Zerbi in place of Eugenio Corini.

“It is important that the team supports Corini, but now we need a response on the pitch,” Zamparini told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I have to admit it looks really bad this year, regardless of who is the Coach. After three rounds Davide Ballardini decided to leave, De Zerbi lost eight in a row and then went out of the Coppa Italia.

“It’s not easy for a President to take these decisions and increase the operational costs by paying out more wages. You don’t always make rational decisions and try to change the situation any way you can.

“It’s difficult to save a ship that has already hit an iceberg and sunk. Corini isn’t to blame, as the whole season has been like this. The team and those leading it are struggling.

“At Wolfsburg a friend of mine told me one season they just about stayed up, then a year later with the same squad and a different Coach they won the title, so we’ll see what happens at Palermo.”

Zamparini has repeatedly stated he will sell Palermo, but there is no sign of a deal.

“The club has been for sale since the start of last year. I am the seller, but there’s a lack of buyers. I offered Palermo to the people of Palermo, Americans, Chinese, I even thought about a shareholder’s option, but that is not easy.”
