President Maurizio Zamparini announced “this will be my last year at Palermo, but I won’t leave it to losers.”

The patron has said this before, but told La Repubblica newspaper he has given up on many of the projects by now.

“I honestly believe this will be my last year at Palermo. Over the last few days I’ve been in London and hired a company to find investors interested in buying the club.

“I don’t want to be repaid for what I spent, but I am not leaving Palermo in the hands of a bunch of losers.

“I want to dedicate myself to my other companies and give the team to someone who can take them into the Champions League.

“I won’t be building a new stadium. It wasn’t even possible to sit round a table and discuss it. A project has been ready for years and I expected it to be greeted with enthusiasm.

“I had found investors ready to build around the stadium and spoke to the associations in Palermo. We would’ve created jobs, but instead they called me a speculator.

“Building a stadium is impossible in Palermo today. I am 74 years old, not 25. I am tired.”
