Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has reiterated his ambition to sign Antonio Cassano in the wake of his fall out with Sampdoria.

Zamparini was one of the first to declare his interest in offering Cassano a new challenge after Sampdoria asked that his contract be rescinded following a foul-mouthed tirade aimed at Riccardo Garrone last week.

Interviewed on Sky Italia, Zamparini was pressed on whether he is serious about signing the 28-year-old enigma.

"From the moment that I loved football profoundly, the kind that is played well and by great champions, I would be very happy to contract an absolute talent like Cassano, who I consider to be the only true young Italian champion still playing.

"Yes, I will try and sign him."
