Maurizio Zamparini has ‘asked forgiveness’ to Palermo fans for ‘a month of chaos’ after Beppe Iachini’s return.

The Coach’s re-hiring was announced this morning only three months after his initial sacking, with four other tacticians having sat on the bench in the interim period.

The fiery Zamparini, who has forged a reputation for his trigger-happy attitude to sackings, made the uncharacteristic move of apologising for what has been a tumultuous period even by the Sicilians’ standards.

“Following the official announcement of his reinstatement, I wish to thank Beppe Iachini for his great willingness as he returns to the bench at a difficult moment for the team,” Zamparini’s statement on Palermo’s official website read.

“I’m certain that with his determination and work he will lift the club out of this crisis of results, with the same spirit that brought us from Serie B to Serie A. Maintaining our status will be like another promotion.

“Forza Beppe and good luck!

“The full support of the splendid Palermo fans will be necessary, their passion and energy should help the team through this difficult period.

“I ask forgiveness for this for this month of chaos, which paradoxical events have caused with the departures of Ballardini and Schelotto.

“I hope that every cloud has a silver lining because the chaos, due also to my miscalculations and misunderstandings with Iachini, made it possible to reconstruct the relationship with Beppe and I hope, with the full cooperation of both, that he will bring us back to the successes Palermo deserve.

“A toast to all Palermitans. Forza Palermo!”
