The fiery Rosanero owner released a statement on the club’s website earlier to clarify that he is angry with players, not referees, about unfair decisions made due to simulation.

“The press writes inappropriately: ‘Zamparini furious with the referees’”, read a statement on Palermo’s official website.

“It isn’t true and that’s evident from the text of the press release.

“I’m angry about the players who draw false evaluations from referees by simulating.

“This doesn’t happen in English football where, from their sporting culture, there aren’t cheaters also because they would be booed by the fans.

“Diving is a typical vice of our football and of certain players, devoid of true sporting values because no one has taught them.

“I therefore propose to the sporting institutions to use television evidence to sanction the cheaters who encourage refereeing errors with fines and suspensions.

“Also when (typical only in our game) certain players stay ‘dead’ on the ground to interrupt opposition counter-attacks and then get up again straight away like there was no injury.

“That’s why in certain cases you need some help (television) for the referees for situations where the human eye isn’t enough.

“Naturally the players of Palermo will be observed first and foremost.”
