Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is “ashamed of players who show contempt for the shirt” after a Coppa Italia exit to Alessandria.

The Rosanero were beaten 3-2 at home by the Lega Pro minnows – the third division in Italian football.

“Today I was ashamed of the way some players expressed their apathy on the pitch,” read a statement released by President Zamparini.

“Wearing the pink jersey of Palermo must be an honour for any player, because it is loved by one of the best fan groups in Italy.

“The players who show contempt for the shirt with this type of performance are not worthy of being called up to represent our colours ever again.

“I will take necessary steps.”

Zamparini already fired Coach Beppe Iachini last month to bring in Davide Ballardini.
