Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has claimed that his side 'need a miracle' to stay in Serie A.

The Rosanero are currently 18th in the table, two points behind Siena a place above them in 17th.

And the club's chief has insisted that it is unlikely they will avoid relegation, whilst also pin-pointing where it has gone wrong for the Sicilian side.

“We have been very unlucky in this year's championship,” he told GR Parlamento. “We need a miracle to save us.

“I have admitted the mistakes I've made. I have taken my responsibility.

“I was wrong to send away [Giuseppe] Sannino and take [Gian Piero] Gasperini – he threw away important matches against Pescara, Siena and Atalanta.

“Also in January I brought in too many South American players – they were not able to deal with the current situation.”
