Amin Younes has arrived at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome to take his Napoli medical, ahead of his move from Ajax.

The German international had already agreed a deal with the Partenopei for July, with his contract expiring on June 30.

However, following Simone Verdi’s decision to stay with Bologna the Serie A leaders brought the transfer forward and a deal was agreed for around €5m.

Now the winger has been pictured arriving at Villa Stuart, with his medical scheduled for 14.00 Italian time.

“I’m really happy to take this big step and join Napoli,” Younes told De Telegraaf about the move.

“Clearly I leave with mixed feelings. I can’t be happy about the last six months, but I think about the beautiful moments and reaching the Europa League final, despite the disappointment.

“Ajax took me from Germany as a player who was almost unknown and they gave me a chance and I tried to do my best for the club.

“I think I did that, especially in the Europa League against Schalke and Lyon.”

Younes was then asked if he feels he’s not repaying that faith by leaving for only €5m.

“Napoli had already spoken and tested my availability with my agent, Nicola Innocentin, but I was just focused on the pitch.

“When he told me the interest had become serious I started thinking about it. On Wednesday everything happened very quickly, my agent spoke with [Ajax sporting director] Marc Overmars.

“They indicated a move to Napoli was possible because of the fair price the Italians were willing to pay and the fact I really wanted this move.

“It’s a good deal considering I have six months left on my contract. Last summer Ajax could have earned €13-15m but saying no to the offer [from Schalke] was a club choice.

“It wasn’t my choice, but I was happy the offer came in. I already wanted to leave in the summer and it would have been better if they’d accepted the offer, I let the club know that.

“It wasn’t an easy time after Ajax’s rejection, and you could see in my play I didn’t have the good mood of the previous two years.

“Sometimes you only get one chance to go to a big club and if you don’t go, someone else will.

“If you’re going to leave Ajax you should go to a club that plays the same way and for me Napoli ar the Ajax of Serie A.

“They play in a really spectacular and attractive way, and I think Napoli is a passionate club just like Ajax.

“I’ll need to get used to the country and the language, but I think it’ll be a lot like Ajax.

“Have I spoken with Maurizio Sarri? Yes, but even more with the sporting director. [Cristiano] Giuntoli gave me the feeling I’ll find space in the next six months to secure a place at the World Cup.

“I’m not afraid of competition, I really like the Italian league and Napoli are top of the table. The training and the games there will make me a better player.”
