Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who impressed many with his work in the 2022 World Cup final, will lead the officiating team in Inter’s upcoming Champions League clash with Porto.

The Nerazzurri edged out an important 1-0 win over the Portuguese outfit in their first leg clash in San Siro last week, a key result after some stumbles in Serie A. The 2-1 loss to strugglers Spezia on Friday shook Simone Inzaghi’s side, but they’ll be expecting a strong response against Porto on Tuesday.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Marciniak has been assigned to officiate the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 second leg between Porto and Inter, his fifth game in the competition this season.

The 42-year-old Polish referee found a little fame after his calm and collected work in the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, which earnt him widespread praise.

He has overseen six Inter matches in the past – two wins, two draws and two losses, including this season’s 3-3 draw with Barcelona.
