Sacked Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has his eyes on managing a team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“I want to soon get back on the bench,” the tactician stated on Friday. “Maybe even with a national side for the World Cup Finals next year…”

Mancini spent four seasons at City, a club who he admits were monitoring Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

“When I was at City I often spoke about Cavani with the management because he was somebody who could have been targeted,” he added.

“However, I don’t know now whether he is of interest in the club’s new technical project.”

Cavani can be sold if a club matches his €63m release fee clause and Napoli have been paired with City’s Edin Dzeko as his possible replacement.

“Dzeko is a great striker and he could score 20-30 goals a season in Italy,” Mancini added. “I’m sure of that.”

Mancio, formerly of Inter, was also asked about the Nerazzurri given that boss Walter Mazzarri has left Napoli for San Siro.

“Inter are a particular side, a very strong one with a great history behind them. But it is not an easy place. Saying that, Mazzarri has the qualities to get them competing at the top again.

“His replacement at Napoli? Rafael Benitez is an excellent Coach and he has the right experience to be successful in a beautiful but difficult place like Naples.”
