Italy international Sandro Tonali could potentially still be eligible to play for Newcastle in their Premier League encounter with Wolves on Saturday afternoon, despite reaching an agreement with the FIGC over a 10-month ban for his involvement in illegal betting on Thursday.

Despite the fact that Tonali’s ban from the FIGC comes into force the day after its official announcement, the punishment still needs to be extended internationally by UEFA and FIFA.

According to recent reports from Calciomercato, this is a process that can take up a considerable amount of time, months even, however the FIGC have reportedly taken preventative measures to ensure that the ban is upheld internationally in a timely manner.

However, during Friday morning’s press conference, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe confirmed that the club have not yet been officially notified of Tonali’s suspension.

In fact, Tonali is set to travel with the Newcastle squad for their game against Wolves as things stand.

“We haven’t had any official confirmation yet; we haven’t had anything from the Italian authorities at the moment,” Howe told the press while carrying out his media duties.

He continued: “There is a high chance that he could be available for us at Wolves. We are preparing as if he is fit and ready to play. He will be travelling with us.”

A statement released by the FIGC on Thursday confirmed that Tonali has been issued a 10-month ban and a €20,000 fine, as well as being ordered to make a number of public appearances to dissuade others from following his example.
