Milan are on the verge of selling Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United and the announcement is expected at some point next week.

The Rossoneri have agreed a circa €80m deal with the Magpies, who are keen to welcome the Italian midfielder following their failure to get Inter talisman Nicolo Barella. Tonali carried out his medicals with Newcastle yesterday at a clinic in Romania.

The imminent sale of Tonali has not gone down well with Milan fans, who are still reeling from Gerry Cardinale’s decision to sack technical director Paolo Maldini earlier this month. Many are now concerned about the future of the project in the Lombardy capital.

Fabrizio Romano explained why Newcastle have to wait a few days to announce the arrival of Tonali, with technical formalities holding up the completion of the deal. This is not a cause for concern, however, as an agreement has been fully reached.

His agent Giuseppe Riso has already discussed his client’s move to the Northeast of England, telling the media that it’s “a perfect project for him”.
