With the summer transfer window just around the corner, doubts are continuing to grow regarding the future of Mike Maignan at Milan.

The 28-year-old French goalkeeper has been one of the most important players in the Rossoneri squad since his arrival from Lille back in July 2021, being one of the heroes of the Scudetto winning season and continuing to shine despite the difficulties over the last few years.

Maignan is still on the initial contract he signed with Milan when he arrived three years ago, leaving his current deal to expire in June 2026. Negotiations with his agents have been ongoing for months, but haven’t produced a result yet.

Maignan doubts

Page 17 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Maignan is in a strange spot in the Milan environment, starting to feel isolated as he continues to work to try and win. The Frenchman is ambitious and the lack of competitiveness this season has left him frustrated.

The French goalkeeper, who currently earns around €3.2m net per season, wants a significantly higher salary to keep him in the Lombardy capital but for now the club are far off his requests, creating a stall in the negotiations.

Milan’s disappointing season and Maignan’s lack of standout performances have also affected his market value, seeing it drop from circa €100m to around €60m, making him a transfer market opportunity for interested parties.

2 thought on “Why Maignan future at Milan is shrouded in doubt”
  1. Maignan should focus in getting better after a bad season. Performance now, money later. If not, sell him

  2. Probably the best goalkeeper Milan had since the 90s (in some aspects of the game, he gave me more sense of security at the back compared to even Dida). I hope he stays, but if not, hope Milan can get a good amount of transfer fee out of him.
