Although Spanish reports claim Luka Modric will stay at Real Madrid, Italian sources assure he is still pushing for an Inter transfer.

The Croatia international turns 33 next month and is under contract with the Merengues until June 2020.

Spanish site AS insisted this afternoon that Real Madrid won’t allow him to leave unless someone pays the €750m release clause, offering a new contract that would practically double his €6.5m per year salary.

However, Sky Sport Italia continue to maintain Modric wants Inter and his entourage are pushing Real Madrid to stand by a gentleman’s agreement to let him go.

The idea would be to join Inter for four years, then another two in China with their sister club Jiangsu Suning.

His agent Vlado Lemic met with Real Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sanchez this morning and again asked for a transfer to Inter, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Monday could be decisive, as that is when Real Madrid fly out to Tallinn for the European Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.

Curiously, Inter are in Madrid tonight because they are facing Atleti in a friendly tomorrow evening, so it’s the perfect opportunity to hold talks with Real.
