The FIGC President is stepping down after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup, and gave a fiery Press conference today.

At one point he was making a point about the amateur leagues, and bizarrely slipped into French.

“Good luck to the President of CONI, to whom the world of the amateurs says ‘chapeau’ [hats off]!” Tavecchio shouted, referring to Giovanni Malago who had called on him to resign.

“Do you want to talk en Français, monsieur? En Français? Tout suite! But the question is not comme ça [like that].

“The world of the amateurs is one that I built, that I loved. I made a team there in 1974, all my bonuses have been there for 44 years.

“I’ve invested €500,000 and to whom are we supposed to say ‘chapeau’? Chapeau from here! I say chapeau!”
