Nonetheless the Italians started off excellently, with Rodrigo Palacio's run on the counter allowing him to find Yuto Nagatomo, whose left-foot finish went in near the post.

Inter dominated the first half with at least four clean chances on goal, but they failed to capitalise. At the 43', Leandro Desabato was left completely unmarked in the box on the developments of a free kick, and it was only too easy for him to equalise.

In the absence of appropriate replacement players on the bench, Mancini was unable to keep up the momentum and the game saw no further goals.
