Inter’s Emiliano Viviano is hoping to get back into action sooner than expected following knee surgery.

The custodian was set to join Genoa in August, but ligament damage sustained last week means he’ll be out of action until 2012.

“I was certainly feeling better before the injury, although I’m happy that the operation went well,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“The next few months are going to be very difficult for me. I hope that I can get back to action sooner than the six months mentioned.”

It has been a disappointing summer so far after his somewhat surprise move to the Italian giants .

Viviano’s future was decided by a blind auction which Inter won thanks to a clerical error in Bologna’s bid.

“I returned to Inter, almost by accident, and now I’ve picked up this injury,” the Italian international added. “I’m disappointed, but I have to look ahead.

“I have complete faith in Inter and in their ability. I’ll get back to full fitness and then we’ll see.”
