Joshua Zirkzee reveals the reason behind his goal celebration after beating Lazio and wants to make Bologna fans ‘dream even more’ after catching Atalanta in fourth place.
The Dutch striker completed the turnaround at the Stadio Olimpico after the Gustav Isaksen opener and Oussama El Azzouzi equaliser, securing the 2-1 away victory.
“We are just taking it day by day, game by game. We are doing well at the moment, it has been a fantastic week, it is nice for the fans, we hope to continue like this and make them dream even more,” Zirkzee told Sky Sport Italia.
They have now won four in a row in the League and are level with Atalanta in fourth place, although La Dea have a game in hand to be played against leaders Inter on February 28.
Can Bologna genuinely start to believe in a Champions League qualifying spot?
“We are not really focused on anything like this, just game by game. It’s a wonderful position we are in, so we’ll just continue like this and try to get to the best position at the end of the season.”
Zirkzee gave Thiago Motta a big hug at the final whistle, so is the coach the secret behind Bologna’s success?
“I don’t think there is a big secret, we just work very hard. We came here to beat Lazio, who are a great team, so obviously it feels extra special. You just have to keep working, keep them away from the goal and at the final whistle, a big hug is the best way to celebrate!”
Finally, Zirkzee was asked why he keeps copying the Gabriel Batistuta ‘machine gun’ celebration. Was the former Fiorentina and Roma hitman an idol?
“Yeah, he is a great role model and I think it’s a great way to celebrate. When there is a lot of emotion, I think it’s a great way to celebrate.”
