Davide Zappacosta assures the goal he scored for Atalanta against Torino this evening was absolutely intentional, ‘unlike the one for Chelsea that was meant to be a cross.’

The wing-back made several strong runs down the left in the opening stages of the match at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, getting away from Valentino Lazaro and eventually squeezing a finish past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic at the near post from the tightest of angles.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia afterwards, he was asked if that was intentional or a pull back from the by-line for teammates that had gone wrong.

“No, this one really was a shot, unlike the one for Chelsea that was meant to be a cross. I had actually had three runs down the flank by then and was too tired to cross, so I just hit it and hoped for the best.”

The goal Zappacosta is referring to during his Chelsea career was an extraordinary run and lob into the far top corner during the Champions League group game tie against Qarabag at Stamford Bridge in 2017.
