Napoli are back in the Champions League, hammering Liverpool 4-1, and that also means the incredibly loud singalong to the anthem has returned, clocked at 113 decibels, but the crowd reached 200 decibels during the match.

The Partenopei failed to qualify for the last two seasons, going instead to the Europa League, but are at the top tier of European football once more in 2022-23.

They opened in ideal fashion with a 4-1 victory over Liverpool, which could easily have had more goals, as Victor Osimhen hit the post and saw his penalty saved, while Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was denied by a Virgil van Dijk goal-line clearance.

Napoli fans famously sing along to the Champions League anthem before kick-off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and Amazon Prime Video measured that chant at 113 decibels.

That is louder than a pneumatic drill on tarmac.

When Piotr Zielinski converted his penalty, it reached 112 decibels.

Yet the loudest scream of all was one of pain, when Osimhen’s penalty was parried by Alisson: 200 decibels.
