Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma confirmed his excellent record from the spot by saving a Stade Brest penalty for Paris Saint-Germain. ‘I was convinced I could stop it.’

It proved a decisive moment of the match, as PSG won 1-0 with a goal from Neymar after 30 minutes.

Presnel Kimpembe brought down Noah Fadiga for a penalty, but Donnarumma parried the Islam Slimani effort.

It wasn’t his only decisive save either, as another was required later on, again on Slimani.

“I was convinced I could stop the penalty, so I focused on the taker and was lucky to move the right way,” Donnarumma told reporters after the final whistle.

“I am delighted to have saved the penalty and to have made myself useful to the team.”

That was the 17th penalty Donnarumma has saved in his career out of 49 that he has faced during regular time.

This doesn’t take into account penalty shoot-outs, where he was decisive in Italy’s EURO 2020 victory over England.
