Italy midfielder Marco Verratti is ‘very happy’ to have signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2020.

The Azzurri star penned a new deal with the French champions today ahead of their Champions League clash with Chelsea on Tuesday.

He expressed his gratitude to the club and Coach Laurent Blanc in an interview with the club’s official website, also underlining that ‘I don’t like changing teams’.

"I am very happy because the club has again shown its confidence in me,” he told PSG.fr.

“I joined Paris when the club was beginning to grow and I feel like part of the family, because we've grown up together and we have the same objective, to win as many trophies as possible.

"It's a great story. It's a story of life and football. It can happen when you have clear objectives and you are convinced you can reach them. I am very happy with everything that has happened here, even if we haven't done anything exceptional yet. We can still do better. Me and the team. We still have trophies to win.

"Since the very start I felt it was possible, I felt in step with the club and the city. I didn't think it would work out as well as it has. I thought I was going to arrive in a huge city and that it wouldn't be easy, but I discovered a big club and great teammates and I immediately felt at home and now I'm even happier to have signed again, four years later.

"I'm very happy to have found with Laurent Blanc because we share the same vision of football. He loves playing possession football, and it's also thanks to him that I'm improving every day, so I really want to say a big thank you to the coach.

"I don't like changing teams. I feel good here, good in the city, and I play for a big club, so I don't see why I would want to change. This is the proof that I want to stay here. I know that a lot of clubs are interested in me, but this is my choice, to play for Paris Saint-Germain. I feel great here and I hope to have a long career with Paris.

"We have done great things in France over the past four years and now we need to take the next step in Europe. This year we have a very strong side. Our mentality has changed… We're mentally stronger and that's very important for the Champions League.

It's not possible to win this competition in your first year, but I think we're stronger now and we need to prove it on the pitch. It's easy to say, but I really think we can go a long way."
