Marco Verratti has claimed that it’s up to Cesare Prandelli how he’s used in this summer’s World Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain youngster has been named in the Coach’s 23-man squad for the tournament in Brazil.

But the 21-year-old has insisted that he is unsure how he’ll be deployed – if at all.

“The Coach knows what’s best for the team,” he told a Press conference. “But being able to play in a number of positions is certainly to my favour.

“I’m just putting myself at the disposal of the Coach, and then we’ll see what happens.

“It seems that every year my role has changed. Midfielders nowadays have to be very technical. In recent months I’ve played as a regista – but with Pirlo here I think that might be impossible for me!”

The former Pescara man then commented on the first match with England and the reception he expects in Brazil.

“Over the past two years I’ve had the opportunity to come up against English players [in the Champions League].

“I don’t think it will affect me coming up against greats like [Steven] Gerrard, even though they have made history.

“The World Cup is the World Cup – there’s going to be great enthusiasm wherever we go. It’s going to be exciting to play there.

“To represent the country in South America is going to be a real source of pride for me.”

Verratti concluded by commenting on Ciro Immobile’s move to Borussia Dortmund and his own future.

“I think it’s normal for players to want to go and play abroad. It’s difficult for Italian teams to retain its best young players.

“I’m not surprised that Ciro has decided to go and play in Germany.

“I want to stay in Paris. I feel really good there. But if one day I was asked to go back to Italy, I would consider it.”
