Marco Verratti wants to stay at PSG “for as long as possible” and reveals Carlo Ancelotti “is like a father to me.”

The Italy midfielder moved to France at the age of 19, before he had even managed a single minute of Serie A football.

“When I arrived in Paris in 2012, I was very young and it was a difficult moment for me,” Verratti told L’Equipe.

“Ancelotti helped me so much both on the field and off. He taught me how to behave and so much else. I can say in football terms he is like a father to me.

“The Coach is an extraordinary person; he manages to create truly special rapports with his players.”

Ancelotti won the Ligue 1 title at Paris Saint-Germain and then moved to Real Madrid, so could Verratti follow?

“I have no regrets about leaving Pescara for PSG, as the offer was impossible to refuse both for me and the club. Pescara were able to reconstruct the squad and I got to play alongside champions.

“I didn’t expect to be a regular starter, because there are so many great players here and I arrived from Serie B.

“When I hear my name chanted in the stadium, I feel I really made the right decision coming here. The best way for me to thank the fans is to play as well as possible and stay as long as possible.

“I thank the supporters and play also for them, who make sacrifices to get to every game.”
