Hellas Verona have confirmed that midfielder Mattia Zaccagni tested positive for the coronavirus, becoming the 12th Serie A player to catch the disease.

The 24-year-old had already been in self-isolation as a precautionary measure because Verona played against Sampdoria on March 8 and even scored his team’s goal.

Samp later went on to provide several positive tests, including Manolo Gabbiadini, Morten Thorsby, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Bartosz Bereszynski and Fabio Depaoli.

Now Zaccagni is the first Verona player to be found positive for COVID-19.

It comes just hours after Juventus announced that Blaise Matuidi had also caught the highly-contagious disease, their second player after Daniele Rugani.

Fiorentina also have three cases with Dusan Vlahovic, Patrick Cutrone and German Pezzella.

Zaccagni scored one goal and provided seven assists in 23 Serie A appearances for Verona this season.
