Juric was sitting out a touchline ban, but he was a player for Gasperini at Crotone and Genoa, then his assistant manager, so their similar tactical ideas cancelled each other out.

“We knew that we were facing a very strong team, but we are happy with the performance, showed our improvement once again and the lads should be very proud,” Paro told Sky Sport Italia.

“Gasperini was my coach too, so it was fascinating getting to face off on the touchline. It was an incredible mix of emotions. I tried to stay sharp and help the team as much as possible.

“We learned a lot from Gasperini and his football culture. Atalanta are a model for us to follow, albeit with the inevitable differences, as everyone makes their own personal modifications.

“Verona have been growing consistently throughout the season and we want to keep that process going.”

There are reports Juric has been approached to take over at Fiorentina next season.

“I think the coach is evaluating the project for next term with the club. We raised the bar so much this season and are talking about the possibility of continuing that.”
