Italy CT Giampiero Ventura says Graziano Pelle is on the naughty step, Sebastian Giovinco is in an inferior League and that he will “chat” to Mario Balotelli.

Pelle, Giovinco and Balotelli were once more absent from Ventura’s squad for games against Germany and Liechtenstein over the next two weeks, and the Italy boss gave explanations for why Stephan El Shaarawy was presently nearer to a recall than the trio.

“Pelle? He needs a pause for reflection,” he continued at a Press conference.

“Who may be recalled? El Shaarawy. Giovinco? For two years, I did everything for him, but today, however, he plays in a League where the number of goals he scores has less importance.

“Sometimes you adapt to that type of League, then the phase of returning and recapturing [your previous level] becomes secondary because he can expect the ball without any problems.

“Criscito, on the other hand, is a great player, I’ve seen him grow: the problem is that he has to fight to rediscover his sacred flame. Qualitatively, he deserves to be in the national team.

“Balotelli? Qualitatively he’s been important, but there are other aspects to consider. After all, he’s only been back for two months.

“I’ll have a chat with him to understand his desire of being in contention.”
