Giampiero Ventura said Maxi Lopez “must decide if he wants to be a protagonist” at Torino after today’s brace.

The striker arrived on loan from Chievo in January and has been on stunning form, scoring a series of Europa League goals and today beating his former club 2-0.

“We created a great deal and 2-0 perhaps doesn’t reflect the extent of our dominance,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

The striker arrived on loan from Chievo in January and has been on stunning form, scoring a series of Europa League goals and today beating his former club 2-0.

“We created a great deal and 2-0 perhaps doesn’t reflect the extent of our dominance,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“Maxi Lopez could stay here next season, but he must decide if he wants to really be a protagonist again. I do believe he’s taken the right path.

“I compliment my squad yet again, as they’ve done great things that could’ve been amazing. The Europa League isn’t mathematically impossible, but we’d have to get everything right and hope the others fall.”

There is the possibility Torino could qualify even finishing seventh, because Genoa have been denied a UEFA licence due to unpaid transfer bills.

“I don’t know the situation, but reading the papers they appear to have some problems. If that were true, we’d be only three points away from Europe.”
