Torino Coach Gianpiero Ventura is reportedly closer than his competitors to replace Antonio Conte for the Azzurri.

With Italian Federation President Carlo Tavecchio bent on announcing the new Coach before the beginning of Euro 2016, the pool has been whittled down to three names.

Albania Coach Gianni De Biasi and Sampdoria Coach Vincenzo Montella were in the race along with Ventura, but both the Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere dello Sport suggest they have been left behind.

Torino have now apparently opened their doors to the Azzurri, giving them permission to make Ventura an offer.

Ventura enjoys the respect not only of Tavecchio but of Marcello Lippi, who will be the Nazionale's new technical director.

Tavecchio and Lippi met yesterday to discuss the latter's salary, but it seems unlikely the two parties will not find an agreement.
