Genoa midfielder Miguel Veloso has rejected talk of a move back to Portugal. "I could never play for Porto or Benfica."

The Portuguese international has been linked with a return to his homeland after a difficult first season in Serie A.

However, given his past as a Sporting player, he insists he wouldn't be able to wear the shirt of a rival club.

"I would never play for Porto or Benfica," he told Relvado. "I also have no intention of returning to Portugal at this stage of my life.

"I would never play for Porto or Benfica," he told Relvado. "I also have no intention of returning to Portugal at this stage of my life.

"Sporting are the team of my heart and I will go back to them at some stage to finish my playing career."

The midfielder, 25, joined the port club in a deal which saw Sporting net €8m and the services of Alberto Zapater.
