The Primavera youth team boss was handed the reins this week after Frank de Boer was sacked, overseeing a 2-1 Europa League defeat at Southampton and tonight’s Serie A win.

“For my staff and I the objective was to do well over these two games. We managed that and to be given this chance by a club like Inter in such a complicated time has been an honour,” Vecchi told Mediaset Premium.

“We brought enthusiasm and very nearly got a great result in England too. Today we dominated the match and in the end got the victory.”

Inter released a statement confirming their new Coach will be announced within 48 hours, but it’s widely reported to be Stefano Pioli.

“I will return to the Primavera and the club will make the decisions it considers most opportune. I have not been told anything yet, but someone else will certainly arrive.

“The lads showed real responsibility and were happy to work with us, so together we tried to do the best we could, creating a solid squad that knows how to sacrifice itself.

“With the quality we’ve got in attack, we know that sooner or later we’ll find a way through. The victory arrived at the end, it was suffered, but the result is deserved.”
