Universidad de Chile have confirmed they’ve agreed to sell Eduardo Vargas to Napoli. “I am so happy, it’s a dream come true,” added the striker.

Vargas was wanted by many of Europe’s top clubs, including Inter, Chelsea and Manchester City.

“We reached an agreement tonight,” Universidad owner Carlos Herrer told the Corriere dello Sport.

“It is an honour to sell Vargas to the same club that Diego Armando Maradona played for. He is going to a side where he’ll have a great shop window and will not stay with us for the Copa Libertadores.

“The contracts have not yet been signed, but they will be before Monday.”

It is widely believed Napoli struck the deal for around €13m, beating competition from around the continent.

“Napoli await me,” Vargas told Radio Cooperativa. “I send an embrace to all the Universidad de Chile fans, but I am very happy to be a new Azzurri player.

“They are a great Italian side and I’m sure I’ll do very well there. I already know Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, while I am very happy that the negotiations concluded so quickly.

“Europe is a dream come true for me.”
