Genoa appeared to pull off a coup when they re-signed Criscito from Zenit St Petersburg last summer, but the defender’s first season back has been marred by two changes of Coach and what the club perceive as refereeing decisions going against them.

“I’m happy and proud to be part of the great Genoa family,” he told Antenna Blu.

“My first few years here were difficult. I joined Genoa when I was young and I missed my family and friends, but I certainly owe a lot to Mr Gasperini, a Coach who was important for my growth.

“My position? I can play in a back four as a left-back, while in a back three I can play as a centre-back. I feel very good where I am now.

“Differences between Italian and Russian football? The VAR doesn’t seem to work, especially in our last few games.

“In Russia everything was different: there was no pressure like there is here, but that’s also part of football.

“We don’t deserve to be in the position we’re in now. We should have more points and with a couple of wins in a row you can improve a lot.

“However, we find ourselves in a complicated area of the table after a couple of defeats. Still we’re moving forward, always giving our all.”
