The Greek international left the Hellas Verona training camp last night by mutual agreement with the club, but the reason was not given.
It’s now confirmed his older brother Dimitris passed away overnight in Greece.
He had been battling a rare form of leukaemia for a year.
“President Setti, the club, Coach Mandorlini, the staff and entire squad give their sincerest condolences and unite with the pain of the Moras family,” read a statement.
Moras famously posted a photograph of him and his sibling side by side in hospital ahead of the bone marrow transplant, both wearing Superman shirts, in early August 2014.
“You can all be superheroes, because you are all capable of saving a life,” he said to encourage everyone to get themselves tested to become potential bone marrow donors.
The entire Verona squad walked out before a game wearing the same Superman shirts to show solidarity and encourage Dimitris during this fight.
"There are no superheroes, just real men. Forza Dimitris,” read the back of the shirt with the Twitter hashtag #SaveMoras.
