Udinese’s first international friendly of the season was a goalless draw with German club St Pauli.

Coach Andrea Stramaccioni tried out Piotr Zielinski in the hole behind strikers Cyril Thereau and Luis Muriel.

The Bundesliga side has been training for longer than Udinese this summer, so was in considerably better shape.

Only a Danilo goalline clearance prevented Nothe from giving St Pauli the victory, while Bruno Fernandes came on for the second half and had Udinese’s best chances of scoring.

Udinese: Brkic (Meret 67), Heurtaux (Belmonte 46), Danilo, Domizzi; Widmer (Faraoni 69), Pinzi (Riera 64), Allan (Jadson 64), Gabriel Silva (Jaadi 82); Zielinski (Bruno Fernandes 46); Muriel (Zapata 75), Thereau (Lopez 67)
