Udinese President Giampaolo Pozzo blasted “incompetent” referee Paolo Valeri after a 2-0 defeat to Milan.

“The penalty was dubious, but even then the red card was impossible. The referee is incompetent and should not be allowed to officiate,” Pozzo told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have been in football for over 20 years and always stood up for the officials, but the truth is there are two or three incompetent referees who ruin it for everyone else.

“If the authorities got rid of these two or three referees, including Valeri, then it would be better for everyone.”

There were numerous borderline decisions in the game, as Maurizio Domizzi was sent off for a soft penalty on Keisuke Honda, Michael Essien protested at his second yellow card and Adil Rami's header may or may not have crossed the line.
