The Stadio Friuli outfit surprisingly fell to a defeat against the relegation-threatened side which was a setback in their push for a top three finish.
“The tiredness from our trip to Holland certainly drained us mentally and not just physically,” the Coach noted.
“It was harder for us to get into the game, while Novara had not played for eight days,” continued Guidolin.
The loss on Sunday was their second straight defeat following Thursday’s 2-0 reverse against AZ in Europe.
“We weren’t good enough against Novara,” the tactician admitted. “We did better in the second half, but it was too little.
“I hope that my players can continue to play as they have done this term because we know that we have done some beautiful things and a difficult moment like this was a possibility.”
Udinese did get the ball in the back of the net, but Danilo’s effort was ruled out by the match officials.
“From the bench I had an impulse to celebrate, but I looked at the linesman and the joy was left in my throat,” Guidolin sighed.
“I was told that the goal should have stood, but I can’t give a judgement even after seeing the replays. If it was a good goal then perhaps we’ll be favoured the next time by the referee.”
