Paulo Vitor Barreto may be struggling for a spot in Udinese’s team, but he is unlikely to be sold anytime soon.

Barreto came to prominence at Bari, during their promotion season to Serie A and the subsequent follow-up campaign with the Galletti in the top flight when they finished in 10th place.

However, the Brazilian, who was co-owned by Udinese through this period, has since struggled with injury, missing a majority of Bari’s relegation campaign last season and managing just one 13-minute appearance this season for Francesco Guidolin upon his return to Udine.

Even so, the Zebrette are maintaining faith in the 26-year-old who scored 41 goals at Bari. As sporting director Fabrizio Larini told Udineseblog.it, he may be shipped out on loan, but the intention is that he remains Udinese-owned.

“We will discuss it in the next few days, his situation is unusual. In Bari he has done very well but here in Udine he has had only a period of difficulty, but I do not think that Guidolin will tell me to sell him.

“I will say the truth though – our attacking department is perfect, so there is no reason to change the elements that constitute it.”

Barreto has been linked with a move to Serie B side Torino.

“I read about this, but it is just a news item for the moment. President Pozzo has not said anything and we only go forward on the same line of thought.

“Barreto will leave in only two cases – if the President asks so, perhaps because he has received a good economic proposal, or if Guidolin prefers this option.

“At the moment, Barreto enjoys the confidence of all.”
