Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz will oversee Napoli’s Champions League clash against Rangers as Switzerland’s Sandro Scharer is assigned to Plzen-Inter.

The Partenopei kicked off their Champions League campaign in style earlier this week, securing a dominant 4-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Luciano Spalletti’s side will travel to Scotland next week to face Rangers, an undoubtedly tough fixture.

Things were different for Inter, who were outclassed by Bayern Munich and duly lost 2-0 at home. Simone Inzaghi’s side reached the knock-out stages of the competition last season, something they’ll be expecting to replicate this campaign.

Lahoz has been appointed to lead the officiating team for Napoli’s second Champions League outing against Rangers, his fifth time overseeing the Partenopei. Spalletti’s side have won three times before under the watchful eye of Lahoz, with their only defeat being a 2-1 loss to Manchester City.

Scharer has never refereed an Inter match before, although precedent suggests that Italian teams usually do well with the Swiss official leading proceedings.
