Udinese Coach Igor Tudor prepares for the Coppa Italia with Sudtirol and confirms Fiorentina “asked us for Rodrigo De Paul.”

Their campaign officially kicks off tomorrow evening against Sudtirol in the Coppa Italia Third Round.

“Everyone starts the season with hopes and ambitions, but there is also reality to deal with. It’s easy to talk, not so much to back it up with action,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We want to do well and I am sure the team is capable of it. I hear some talk of Europe, but that’s just crazy. Every Coach and fan wants to see their team go to the top, but you need to be realistic too.

“Sudtirol already knocked a Serie B side out of the Coppa Italia and we do not expect this to be an easy game. Clearly, we are favourites against a Serie C outfit, but unless we play our game, we’ll cancel out that gap.”

Tudor was asked about the transfer market amid reports Fiorentina are pushing for Udinese star De Paul.

“If you ask 100 people, all 100 will tell you how crazy it is to keep the transfer window open until September. It’s one of the stupidest things, everyone knows it, but we still have to adapt.

“Everyone wants strong players in their squad and Fiorentina have asked us for De Paul. It’s not unusual, we’d like Federico Chiesa from Fiorentina, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

“All the Serie A clubs are reinforcing this summer, just look at Cagliari, who made some incredible purchases with Radja Nainggolan and Nahitan Nandez.

“I predict a very difficult season again, not to mention those squads who already had a top Coach and were challenging for the Scudetto. It’ll be tough to pick up points.

“I am not unhappy with the squad, but I do get annoyed when I hear people ask me about Europe or the fightback season. Udinese have been struggling for two to three years now, so if I was to turn this situation around by myself, I’d have to be considered a mix between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

“We’ll aim to do the best we can, it’s our only objective. The club wants to save itself from the threat of relegation.”
