The Argentine played in critical role in helping the Nerazzaurri win a historic Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble that season but was overlooked for football’s most prestigious individual award.
“I’m honestly not disappointed,” Milito told Algerian newspaper Le Buteur.
“Without being modest, I can say I deserved to be among the nominations for the award but I was not disappointed to not win it.
“What counts for me are the titles I have won with the team, not individual awards.
“I would never have swapped the Balon d’Or for the Treble.”
The Argentine then commented on the current state of affairs at San Siro.
“It’s obvious that with all the changes we’ve experienced recently we need time to get back to how we were,” he replied.
“We must do all we can to honour the shirt and the history of Inter and I am convinced we will get back to the high levels of a few years ago.”
