Giovanni Trapattoni insists Cesare Prandelli “did a great job” as Italy Coach at the World Cup.

The former Azzurri boss spoke to TuttoMercatoWeb about the Nazionale’s latest revolution in the wake of a first round exit.

“He did a great job, considering the previous years too,” said Trapattoni.

“When there are negative results, even if undeserved, unfortunately this can happen. In my view the elimination was a coincidence, as football is made of these moments.

“Prandelli is aware of certain situations and probably didn’t feel he wanted to continue. There is always the desire to make up for bad experiences and over 48 hours Cesare might reconsider, but to be honest this seems like a considered reaction with a sense of logic.

“Prandelli is not the first Italy Coach to resign, after all.”
