Trapattoni never coached Napoli but did guide Serie A rivals Inter and Juventus to several Scudetti, and he admitted he rejected the Partenopei once, while also giving his opinion on video assistant referees.

“I’m curious about Napoli,” the veteran Coach told La Stampa.

“They’ve always intrigued me, ever since [former Napoli President] Ferlaino courted me and told me, ‘Trapattoni write down your demands and we’ll close the deal.’

“I was fine where I was, at Juve and then in Milan, but that woodworm remains….

“VAR? It’s fair that there’s anotherjudge, although I’m still part of the old school and among those who think that the errors of a referee are ultimately compensated for.

“It’s like when you’re handed a fine, you get home and see the letter that says you were doing 60mph, when you had to be doing 50.

“You didn’t notice, but you’re helpless when you see the evidence. You’re in the wrong. Here, VAR is like a fine with photos.”
