“The Italian League is the most difficult on a tactical level,” Trapattoni, who won the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri in 1989, explained to SportMediaset.

“It’s impossible for a foreign Coach not to have difficulties. In any Serie A game, even against the so-called provincial teams, there are hidden pitfalls.

“Those who come from abroad pay for that because they prepare differently. If Inter decide to change, then Mandorlini would be the best solution in my opinion.

“Stefano Pioli is very good, and moreover he’s one of my students, but Andrea knows the Nerazzurri environment best.

“In terms of a sense of belonging, he’s the most suitable candidate.”

Mandorlini has admitted it would be “a dream” to Coach the Beneamata, having won Serie A and the UEFA Cup in his time as a player there.
