Giovanni Trapattoni has emerged as a surprise candidate if Livorno sack Davide Nicola.

The Amaranto are expected to wield the axe on their Coach after picking up one point from the last eight rounds, as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Parma on Saturday.

Domenico Di Carlo is the front-runner with former Perugia boss Serse Cosmi also in the chase.

An intriguing option has been floated, as it’s reported Livorno President Aldo Spinelli asked Trapattoni to take over.

Trap is currently looking for work after he terminated his contract with the Republic of Ireland by mutual consent.

Although he will be 75 in March, he has no intention of retiring and this would be his first Serie A job since leaving Fiorentina in 2000.

Since then he has worked as the Italy Coach, then Benfica, Stuttgart, Salzburg and Ireland.
