The Giallorossi are enduring an unsettling start to the summer due to centre-back Benatia’s fall-out over a proposed contract renewal, with transfer links continuing to grow as a result.
For the club’s captain, though, hope remains that the situation will be turned around.
“I’ve already spoken about this before,” Totti began to Roma Channel this week.
“I hope that he can stay and find a point at which to meet with the club. It is up to them to decide the best solution.”
Totti was speaking at the presentation of the club’s new home shirt for next season.
“I have worn many, but this is the most beautiful. The yellow is an extra dimension to a special shirt, we are honoured to wear it.
“During these 20 years this is the most beautiful shirt.”
The veteran was asked also about the previous year, in which the team finished second in Serie A and now have Champions League football to look forward to in 2014-15.
“It was a beautiful year, we wanted the title until the last moment, but we had in front of us a team that was too strong. But, we are proud to be back in the Champions League.
“Where can we improve? In order to achieve significant results we have to be strong and improve year after year.
“We are missing a few pieces in order to complete the squad, it’s up to the club to choose.
“Who would I like to face in the Champions League next year? Barcelona, it would be quite a challenge.”
