The 36-year-old hitman said he finally believed that he could challenge for the Capocannoniere title after scoring twice in Verona’s 4-0 victory over Catania.

However, the Lega Serie A announced this afternoon that one of the goals – a header – will be credited as an Alberto Frison own goal.

The ball hit the bar and ricocheted in off the back of the goalkeeper’s head.

Toni had temporarily been joint top scorer in Serie A on 20 goals, but his tally has now been pulled back down to 19.

Ciro Immobile of Torino is Capocannoniere, netting again today for his 21st of the season.
