Tiago Pinto admits Paulo Dybala’s fitness will be tested right up to the Europa League Final with Sevilla, but ultimately ‘our project goes beyond victory or defeat.’
They must play in Serie A first with a trip to Fiorentina, as it kicks off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).
This is a packed campaign for both teams, as the Viola lost the Coppa Italia Final to Inter on Wednesday and will play West Ham United for the Conference League Final on June 7, while the Giallorossi take on Sevilla in the Europa League Final on May 31.
With an eye on that clash in Budapest next week, Dybala, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Leonardo Spinazzola, Rui Patricio and Nemanja Matic have been left behind.
“If Dybala was healthy, he would be here today, but we’ll see how he’s doing on Wednesday,” Tiago Pinto told DAZN.
Winning the Europa League would not only represent the second consecutive trophy on the continent for this club, but also guarantee qualification for next season’s Champions League group phase.
“Obviously, Wednesday’s game is very important for all of us, probably one of the most important in Roma’s recent history. Our project goes beyond victory or defeat, the parameters are very clear for everyone.
“We’ll be happier if we win, but regardless the plans are clear.”
