La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Mauricio Pochettino wants Romelu Luakaku to remain at Chelsea next season and that there are three reasons behind the Argentinean’s decision.

Lukaku will be back at Stamford Bridge at the end of his loan spell at the Stadio Meazza in June. The Belgian striker wants to remain at Inter also in 2023-24, but according to Gazzetta, Pochettino wants to work with him at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Argentinean will be appointed by the Blues and is reportedly planning to talk to Lukaku to present his project, where the 30-year-old striker would have a leading role.

According to the report, there are three reasons why Pochettino and Chelsea want Lukaku to stay. First, he still belongs to the club as Inter do not have an option to make his move permanent. Second, he is Chelsea’s most expensive signing ever, having joined the club in a €113m transfer in 2021.

Third, Chelsea are aware that Inter won’t be able to afford to buy Lukaku permanently in June.

Lukaku failed to justify his price tag at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel in 2021-22 and only scored 15 goals in 44 appearances. This season he has managed 9 in 28 games with Inter.
