Inter President Erick Thohir has insisted that sought-after striker Mauro Icardi will still be at San Siro next season.

The Argentine has scored 16 Serie A goals for the Nerazzurri during a disappointing campaign and is the subject of interest from Premier League leaders Chelsea.

However, in an interview with Corriere della Sera Thohir ruled out a possible summer sale.

“We won’t sell Icardi, he’s one of our most important players,” he said.

“Often money can cause problems, but not for him as he has his head firmly on his shoulders. We are working towards an agreement for a contract renewal, it’s important that he stays with us.”

The President also added fuel to the rumours linking Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure to the Nerazzurri and a reunion with former boss Roberto Mancini.

“We like him and we’re sure that Mancini would know how to make the most of his talents,” said Thohir.

“He has a contract with City, but in the market you never know what can happen.”

Thohir also reflected on a disappointing season for the San Siro outfit during which they have changed managers and languished in mid-table.

“Nobody is planning on giving up, despite the setbacks of this season. We are all ambitious, most of all Mancini.

“He will have a squad of his own design. The fans can remain calm, what’s most important for me is my responsibility in the role of President – I’m just interested in doing good work and getting good results.

“I’ve never thought that it was a mistake to let [Walter] Mazzarri go. He’s a great person, but we chose Mancini because we believe he’s the right man to get us back to winning ways.”
